What We Do
Tetney Parrot & Parakeet Sanctuary is dedicated to the well being and care of these exotic birds. We are not a charity; rescuing and taking care of birds is our passion, not something that we do for an income or for any other purpose than to give care and protection to these needy creatures.
We understand well the needs of parrots, as such, we don’t believe that any healthy bird should live in a cage. Parrots are wild, yet sentient, highly social, intelligent creatures who deserve far more respect and care than most people are able to offer in a home setting in these parts of the world.
We are a married couple who have cared for parrots for many years and who, since retiring have dedicated more time and effort to improving our gardens and our home so that we can take in rescue and rehomed birds. Spaciousness and freedom are important; they are our mantra.
Another little mission of ours is, we would love to attract more local people into our gardens so that we can share our passion, raise awareness, have a chat, a cup of tea, meet one another, enjoy our surroundings and learn more about parrots.
How You Can Help
There are various ways to help out but your time is the most valuable, as the sanctuary needs a lot of work to take care of the birds and maintain.
